Apple Lisa 1 CAD Models by Jinu Lee

The link below will take you to the Autodesk site where the Apple Lisa 1 CAD models created by Jinu Lee in 2018 are presented.

Jinu was a student of mine at the time of his modeling Lisa in the IDAS (International Design school for Advanced Studies) graduate school of design and design management at HongIk University in Seoul, Korea. At that time my colleagues had shipped my Apple and Lisa donations of physical historical Apple materials to Korea for a display and event. These Apple and Lisa 1 artifacts were stored for a time in a room at the IDAS location.

I simply asked Jinu to roughly measure the Lisa 1 main parts and make a basic 3D CAD model of the Lisa 1 computer as an exercise. I paid Jinu for this effort with some valuable computer hardware. To my shocked surprise Jinu had carefully, with incredible detail, measured all of the Lisa 1 parts to a high level of precision and created the models and renderings one will see via the link below—they are simply amazing and of photo-realistic quality. And he did all of this without the benefit of any manufacturing drawings at all, by his intense measurement and observation alone, using a set of calipers and a machinist's rule.

Subsequently, Jinu's work was featured in the event that displayed my Apple donations made to the Seoul Design Foundation at the DongDaeMun Plaza. As one might expect, Jinu's fabulous work launched him into a career of CAD modeling, including a job at Autodesk Korea—and it all is well-deserved!
